The Greenham base has launched its popular My Wild Life photography competition, inspired by the return of the Natural History Museum’s 58 Wildlife Photographer of the Year to its gallery in February/March 2023.
Once again, Newbury Weekly News photographer Phil Cannings and art editor Trish Lee will join the judging panel.
Now in its 4th year, photographers of all ages and skills are invited to participate – whether capturing an image of insects in their backyard, wildlife discovered on a family walk, or of photographs of a beloved pet, The Base seeks creative thinking when it comes to capturing the wonders of the wildlife that surrounds us in town and country.
Two winning photographers will have a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at Beale Wildlife Park in Lower Basildon.
Alongside a trainer for the day, the winners will be able to meet the animals and take photos impossible to achieve behind the fence. They will also win an Annual Base Pass/Family Base Pass, which will give them unlimited access to The Base Gallery for an entire year, as well as the opportunity to see their photographs exhibited in The Base Runway Gallery and Beale Park, and printed in the Newbury Weekly News.
The base wants to showcase the best local talent that celebrates our wildlife and the natural world. So the winning entries, along with the runner-up, runners-up, and highly recommended entries, will be displayed in the Runway Gallery for all to see and admire.
The Base Gallery Manager, Stephanie Johnson, said: “This is our fourth year running this competition and we are delighted to bring Beale Wildlife Park on board to deliver such an incredible first prize. The skill we have seen demonstrated by local youth and adults is incredible and utterly inspiring. In fact, visitors to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition in previous years have often said that our competition finalists’ photos wouldn’t look out of place in the prestigious exhibition – and we totally agree. .
Entries should explore or capture the theme of “My Wild Life” and the deadline for submission is Sunday, December 18 at 5 p.m. The finalists in the two age categories (under 18 and over 18) will be chosen by an expert jury and the winning entries in each category will be chosen by the general public in an online vote on the page Facebook from The Base starting Thursday. , January 12.
