Depth of Field members share their favorite photos

World Photography Day takes place on August 19, 2022. On this day, photographers around the world celebrate the art, craft, science and history of photography. Depth of field gave ambitious photographers access to some of the best events of the summer. In honor of World Photography Day, three members of the Depth of Field program reveal how they took some of their most treasured photos over the summer.

Capture the Biggest Events with Depth of Field

Isis Boundy attended the Strawberries & Cream festival with the Depth of Field program. She captured a photo of rapper, singer and songwriter Ms Banks.

Ms. Banks had so much energy and was definitely one of my favorite performers.

“I was trying to get the compositions right while taking a variety of shots because we were only allowed to be in front for two songs. Ms. Banks had so much energy and was definitely one of my favorite performers.

Isis also took pictures of English singer Mabel, who also performed with dancers. It reminded him of a scene from the popular High School Musical film series. “It looks like they’re stuck in a play because you can see a lot of characters,” she says. “It looks like a High School Musical poster.”

“I love it when there’s good lighting in photos. Mabel’s set has such beautiful, crisp, cool lighting. They had a really strong purple tint to it which made it look more epic.”

Ahmad Abdullah attended the 2022 Moto GP British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit. Before getting his perfect shot, he separated himself from other photographers to make sure his image stood out.

I pulled out my phone and recorded it in slow motion to find this Red Bull motorcycle.

“I had to find my own space, otherwise others will capture the same photo,” says Ahmad. “To get this photo, I went to a different area, which made it unique.”

When Ahmad found his space, he had no idea where the runners were.

“I took out my phone and recorded it in slow motion to find this Red Bull motorbike. They were going very fast, so I predicted where they would be for the next lap and increased the shutter speed to 1 /1250 per second to get this shot.”

Rhiannon Cobb also went to the Strawberries & Cream festival with Depth of Field.

It was raining at the time, so I had to shelter my camera under my poncho. I spotted these girls laughing and asked if I could take their picture because it was pretty funny.

“I never thought I would take pictures at Red Bull soap box, rugby or a music festival. Festivals are my go-to for taking pictures because music photography is my forte. I like energy.

This photo was taken with a Canon 1DX Mark II with a Canon 24-70 lens. I shot it at 24mm ISO 100 f/5. It was raining at the time, so I had to shelter my camera under my poncho. I spotted these girls laughing and asked if I could take their picture because it was kinda funny.”
